Professor Karen Knapp

Karen is Head of Department and Associate Professor in Musculoskeletal Imaging and has been in academia for over 20 years after a clinical career in diagnostic radiography. She is known for her contributions to musculoskeletal imaging and work in the field of osteoporosis, significantly advancing the field of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis research. After nine years as Head of Medical Imaging, she is proud to lead the Department of Health and Care Professions, dedicated to advancing healthcare education and research and improving patient care.
Dr Christine Heales

Christine re-joined the University of Exeter in 2018, having been Principal Radiographer for a number of years for an MRI department. She has had a varied career as a diagnostic radiographer, ultimately specialising in MRI, and has held roles that included clinical practice, management and leadership. Christine has been employed in a variety of settings including the NHS and the independent sector as well as academia.
Professor Rich Kyle

Richard joined the University in 2022 having previously held various academic positions in Scotland, England, and at Public Health Wales. Richard leads the Academy of Nursing and has diverse interdisciplinary research interests spanning nursing, population and public health, psychosocial oncology, and human geography, where he began his academic career.

Sue has overall operational responsibility for the programmes in our department. She qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer from University of Southampton in 1994 and enjoyed a varied clinical career focusing on MRI and clinical education before joining University of Exeter in 2009. She gained experience working within the NHS as both a general and cross-sectional radiographer and also worked in the private sector and industry through specialisation in MRI. Within the University she has held several academic leadership positions in relation to undergraduate and postgraduate education and has a keen personal interest in student experience, retention and success.
Professor David Llewellyn

David is the Director of Research and Impact for both the Department of Health and Care Professions and the Department of Health and Community Sciences. This is a strategic role to foster a dynamic culture of research excellence, encouraging international collaboration and valuing creativity and innovation.
Dr Rob Meertens

Rob is a Diagnostic Radiographer by background and has been at the University since 2013 with research interests predominately around bone health diagnostics. Through his role as Director of Business Engagement and Innovation, he has seen the wide-ranging industrial interest in artificial intelligence applications applied to both bone health and radiology more generally and is working to strengthen our industry links in these areas.
Dr Enrico De Luca

Enrico joined the University in 2022 after an impressive 25-year career in critical care nursing and extensive experience teaching health professions in practice. Enrico has a PhD in Social Psychology and Education Research and has been involved in international research projects on intensive care, touch, palliative care, learning and interprofessional care and innovation in health services.
As Director of EDI, Enrico is passionate about equality and believes everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. He sits on the Faculty EDI committee and ensures the department remains an inclusive and supportive environment for all
Professor Will Henley
Director of Global Engagement and Professor of Medical Statistics

Will is the Director of Global for both the Department of Health and Care Professions and the Department of Health and Community Sciences. This role steers our global initiatives and fosters collaborations with international universities as well as growing our international student community. Will also leads medical statistics across the Medical School and is Head of the Health Statistics Group.
