Karen is Head of Department and Associate Professor in Musculoskeletal Imaging and has been in academia for over 20 years after a clinical career in diagnostic radiography. She is known for her contributions to musculoskeletal imaging and work in the field of osteoporosis, significantly advancing the field of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis research. After nine years as Head of Medical Imaging, she is proud to lead the Department of Health and Care Professions, dedicated to advancing healthcare education and research and improving patient care.

Deputy Head of Department and Lead for Medical Imaging

Christine re-joined the University of Exeter in 2018, having been Principal Radiographer for a number of years for an MRI department. She has had a varied career as a diagnostic radiographer, ultimately specialising in MRI, and has held roles that included clinical practice, management and leadership. Christine has been employed in a variety of settings including the NHS and the independent sector as well as academia.

Director of Nursing

Jodie is a registered Intensive Care Unit nurse with two decades of clinical and managerial experience which includes clinical governance, research and education roles. Jodie completed her NIHR Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship and was awarded her PhD in November 2022. Additionally, she is a chartered Human Factors and Ergonomics specialist (C.ErgHF), a globally recognized accreditation. Her expertise centres on enhancing system efficiency, driving digital innovations, and conducting thorough service evaluation. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher within the nursing academy and supported through an NIHR Development, Skills and Enhancement (DSE) award.

Director of Medical Imaging

Amy qualified as a Therapeutic Radiographer in 2006. Prior to becoming Director of Medical Imaging, Amy was employed as the Principal Therapeutic Radiographer for Research and Development at Weston Park Cancer Centre and previously worked at Sheffield Hallam University as a Senior Lecturer on the Radiotherapy and Oncology programmes.

Director of Education and Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging

Sue has overall operational responsibility for the programmes in our department. She qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer from University of Southampton in 1994 and enjoyed a varied clinical career focusing on MRI and clinical education before joining University of Exeter in 2009.  She gained experience working within the NHS as both a general and cross-sectional radiographer and also worked in the private sector and industry through specialisation in MRI.  Within the University she has held several academic leadership positions in relation to undergraduate and postgraduate education and has a keen personal interest in student experience, retention and success.

Chloe joined the Department of Health and Care Professions in 2022 after nine years working for the College of Physical Sciences in various roles relating to outreach, student recruitment and global. She works closely with the Head of Department and her diverse role ultimately involves the planning and operational aspects of running a successful teaching and research department.

Susannah is a Registered Nurse, working part time as a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Exeter. She is also a PhD student, based at the University of Cambridge MRC Epidemiology unit, exploring the commercial determinants of health and their impact on UK health policy.
