Susannah is a Registered Nurse, working part time as a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Exeter. She is also a PhD student, based at the University of Cambridge MRC Epidemiology unit, exploring the commercial determinants of health and their impact on UK health policy. She has been awarded Master in Public Health (MPH) with merit by the University of Birmingham and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Susannah is the Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for the Department of Health and Care Professions.
Susannah's interest in nurse education was initially stimulated by her aspiration to empower future nurses to enhance quality of care. She was an integral member of the team that set up the MSci Nursing programme at Exeter university and was the Clinical Practice Lead for four years. She continues to work collaboratively to develop the profile of the Academy of Nursing through teaching and research activity. Susannah leads Public, Population and Planetary Health teaching for the MSci Nursing and forthcoming BSc Adult Nursing programmes.
Susannah is an active member of the International Learning Collaborative, an international network bringing people together to improve the delivery of fundamental care in health systems. She aspires to improve standards of fundamental care by providing high quality educational opportunities to current and future nurses. Susannah is the Fundamentals of Nursing Care pillar guardian for the MSci Nursing and forthcoming BSc Adult Nursing programmes.
Postgraduate study and her work as a nurse academic have strengthened Susannah's ambition to engage in public health research. She successfully obtained an NIHR School of Public Health Research PhD studentship, which has enabled her to pursue her research interests in the field of obesity, commercial determinants of health, and food policy development.
