Dr Susan Clompus is Senior lecturer in the Academy of Nursing, she has worked in nurse education for 17 years, previously as Programme director of Nursing at Exeter  and year 2 lead for Nursing  at UWE. She completed her Professional doctorate in health and social care in 2014.  Her thesis focused on  Paramedics and Resilience, understanding how paramedics  were drawn to their work and "survived" it  using a psychoanalytic lens.  Her main interests are in the Sociology and  Psychology of nursing practice and communication skills.  She is a strong advocate of the use of empathetic communication skills in nursing and is currently training  to be a psychotherapist.  She has experience as a researcher working on realist  reviews and evaluation projects in the NHS.
