Mr Kris Deering (Him/He)
Senior Lecturer
Academy of Nursing
Kris is a senior lecturer in Mental Health Nursing and leads on mental health education and research in the health and social care department alongside Holly Suggs. Kris's research focuses mainly on lessening the restrictions of risk management practices within mental health inpatient settings and to look at more collaborative ways to promote service user safety in such environments. This includes using the service user interpretations in what a personal safely means to them and looking at ways this can be developed using relational approaches to care. Kris also leads on the Master’s element of the dual registration (Mental health and Adult nursing) programme such as the fourth year module critically analysing mental health service provision and how it can be improved. Moreover, Kris leads with Holly Suggs on the Evidence Based Practice education within the Academy of Nursing which is a developing a focus on using the philosophy of Pragmatism in such work. Notably that evidence can be determined in many ways and ideally should involve service user involvement.
