Lecturer

University of Exeter

St Luke's Campus

About me:
Jemima graduated from the University of Southampton with a first class degree and dual registration in Adult and Mental Health Nursing. She has always been curious and compelled by the complexities of humans, particularly in the physical health care provision within acute mental health care.
Jemima is a strong advocate for the parity of esteem between physical and mental health care services and believes passionately in equal access to services for all. Jemima has clinical experience within psychiatric intensive care as well as more recently within inpatient specialist eating disorders care and this has given her a broad range of acute mental health skills and knowledge, as well as showcasing her additional physical health skills and knowledge within these areas.
Jemima has a particular interest in nursing and workforce wellbeing. Particularly early career leadership and empowering nurses to strive and advocate for excellence early within their careers and as a student. Jemima completed a funded Early Career Nurse leadership scholarship with the Florence Nightingale Foundation which was monumental in her development as an early career nurse, and found that this was transformational in taking the plunge into an academic role. This transition into academia has sparked a personal and professional interest into the experience of imposter syndrome in the transition between clinical and academic roles, recognising the lack of research and provision within this area.
Interests:
Identity of dual adult and mental health registered nurses and their career development/impact on service provision
Early career nurse leadership experiences and opportunities
The experience of imposter syndrome between clinical and academic roles and the impact on practice
